Transmembrane channel-like protein 2

Protein Summary
Description
Probable ion channel required for the normal function of cochlear hair cells (PubMed:11850618). Component of the hair cell's mechanotransduction (MET) machinery. Involved in mechanosensitive responses of the hair cells (By similarity). This gene encodes a transmembrane protein that is necesssary for mechanotransduction in cochlear hair cells of the inner ear. Mutations in this gene may underlie hereditary disorders of balance and hearing. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]
