Succinyl-CoA:3-ketoacid coenzyme A transferase 2, mitochondrial

Protein Summary
Description
Key enzyme for ketone body catabolism. Transfers the CoA moiety from succinate to acetoacetate. Formation of the enzyme-CoA intermediate proceeds via an unstable anhydride species formed between the carboxylate groups of the enzyme and substrate (By similarity). The protein encoded by this gene catalyzes the transfer of a CoA group from succinate to acetoacetate and is an important enzyme in ketone body catabolism. The encoded protein localizes to the mitochondrion. This gene is intronless, and a pseudogene of this gene is located elsewhere on chromosome 1. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2016]
