Protein Summary
Involved in controlling patterning and neuronal circuit formation at the laminar, cellular, subcellular and synaptic levels. Promotes neurite outgrowth of both axons and dendrites. This gene encodes a preproprotein that is processed into a secreted protein containing eukaroytic growth factor (EGF)-like domains. This protein acts to guide axon growth during neuronal development. Polymorphisms in this gene may be associated with schizophrenia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]
