Tbio
ST8SIA6
Alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase 8F

Protein Summary
Description
Prefers O-glycans to N-glycans or glycolipids as acceptor substrates. The minimal acceptor substrate is the NeuAc-alpha-2,3(6)-Gal sequence at the non-reducing end of their carbohydrate groups (By similarity). This gene encodes a member of the glycosyltransferase 29 protein family. Members of this protein family synthesize sialylglycoconjugates. Sialylation may contribute to multidrug resistance in cancer cells. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2016]
