Mondo Description A condition associated with mutation(s) in the PPT1 gene, encoding palmitoyl-protein thioesterase 1. The condition is one of a group of genetically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders, characterized by accumulation of intracellular lipopigments.
Uniprot Description A form of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis with variable age at onset. Infantile, late-infantile, juvenile, and adult onset have been reported. Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses are progressive neurodegenerative, lysosomal storage diseases characterized by intracellular accumulation of autofluorescent liposomal material, and clinically by seizures, dementia, visual loss, and/or cerebral atrophy. The lipopigment pattern seen most often in CLN1 is referred to as granular osmiophilic deposits (GROD).
Disease Ontology Description A neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis that is characterized by variable age of onset of symptoms (progressive dementia, seizures, and progressive visual failure) and lipopigment pattern of granular osmiophilic deposits, and has_material_basis_in homozygous or compound heterozygous mutation in the PPT1 gene on chromosome 1p34.
