Compared to normal curly hair that is observed in some populations, woolly hair grows slowly and stops growing after a few inches. Under light microscopy, woolly hair shows some structural anomalies, including trichorrhexis nodosa and tapered ends. Some individuals exhibit features of hypotrichosis.
